Get Google Traffic by Feeding the Beast!

Google Feeds on Content. Are You Gonna Give It to Them?

Increasing Google traffic is a successful site's first focus

It was FBI Most Wanted Willie Sutton who, when asked why he robbed banks, famously replied:

Because that's where the money is.

The same logic applies to websites. Why structure your website to please Google?

Because that's where the traffic is, dumb a*#!

Google dominates Search

Yahoo, Bing and Ask are all also-rans. Even combined, they don't drive nearly the traffic that Google does, so why optimize for them?

In the last month (I write this in October 2009), my modest, one-man children's books site has received over 41,000 visitors.

Google sent over 34,000 of them.

And how many of my repeat visitors bookmarked me after finding me on Google? Most of them, no doubt.

Suffice it to say, the overwhelming majority of my traffic is Google traffic.

Google is the well that smart webmasters keep going back to.

Time Out!

Should I install Google Analytics?

Analytics gives Google an inside look at how visitors behave on your site. If you have a site with lots of informative content, you want Google to see how absorbed your visitors are. However...

If your site offers little more than a way to purchase your products and services, or if you're using all the latest SEO tricks in an effort to score high search rankings...

Installing Analytics might mean Google finds out a little sooner how worthless your site is. But hey!...they're gonna find out eventually.

How to increase Google traffic

Build out your site. Take aim at more keywords. Improve visitor experience. Score some solid backlinks.

These are the tried and true methods for boosting traffic from Google.

Google is all about quality content. (PageRank is Google's way of sniffing out quality content.) Adding content means there's more on your site for Google to find. Scoring backlinks communicates that other webmasters find your content worthwhile.

Any efforts you undertake that aren't about quality or backlinks are probably not about earning your way into the upper echelon of search results.

In other words, it means that you're probably using techniques that Google keeps updating their algorithm to sniff out!

With Google, building a quality site is always your best bet. More content, more pages, more visitors.
