Too many Tucson web designers have their priorities out of whack!

I'm sure you'll find many of them have placed ads on this page. Here's what that should tell you...

They're paying for traffic. They're the "experts" and they're paying for traffic? Shouldn't they be getting it free from the search engines?

Isn't that what you want from your site?

Anyone with a website will tell you...

Priority #1 is traffic. Yet when they first hire a web designer, too often the focus turns to "design." (Big surprise!) Traffic to your Tucson site gets lost in the mix.

So here's what I want you to do. When you're interviewing Tucson web designers, I want you to keep steering the conversation to traffic.

• Where do you see my traffic coming from?
• What keywords do you think I can get high search engine rankings for?
• Show me some of your clients' sites and let's Google their keywords. I want to see how high they rank!

If your Tucson website designer isn't comfortable with such questions and can't go into minute detail with the answers, chances are traffic isn't their focus. You'll likely end up with a great-looking, all-the-bells-and-whistles website...with no one visiting it.

Local search is all about words

Here's something else to ask a prospective Tucson website designer: What should my domain name be? If he says, without thinking, "The name of your company," take a hike.

You see, I just Googled Tucson plumber. And do you know what the first site in the listings was? tucsonplumbing.com

If a web designer doesn't even give any thought to putting what you do in your domain name...

He doesn't know sh*t about search!

Tucson web design: What to keep in mind

Google is the new Yellow Pages. Your goal is to get searchers to open the page to you.

Local search is text-based, i.e. people are going to use words to find you. There are two main ways for that to occur:

1. They look for your company by name
2. They look for companies based on what they do

Anyone can build you a site that gets found when you get looked for. Building the site that gets found on page 1 (rather than page 1000) for tucson plumbing is an entirely different story.
